General Questions
Questions about what the Air Balance does, how it helps, and the technology inside.
Yes, the Rolfstone Air Balance is highly suitable for people with allergies such as hay fever, asthma and a house dust mite allergy. The device is equipped with a powerful HEPA-13 filter, which removes at least 99.97% of fine particles from the air – including:
- Pollen (which cause hay fever symptoms)
- House dust mites and their droppings
- Mould spores
- Pet dander
- Fine dust and other allergens
By filtering these allergens from the air, the Air Balance helps to reduce symptoms such as sneezing, shortness of breath, watery eyes or wheezing.
Note: For many people, the Air Balance helps to reduce symptoms, but complaints such as sneezing or shortness of breath may also have causes other than air quality – such as infections, respiratory conditions or food allergies.
You can try the Air Balance for 30 days. Not for you after all? Then you can simply and return it free of charge by submitting a return request.
The Air Balance can help to reduce symptoms in COPD, but it is not a replacement for medical treatment. COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) makes the lungs particularly sensitive to fine dust, pollen, smoke, mould spores and other irritants in the air. The Air Balance is equipped with a HEPA-13 filter that removes at least 99.97% of fine particles from the air, helping to ease the burden on the airways.
For many users this leads to:
- Less irritation of the airways
- Reduced coughing or breathlessness caused by indoor air pollution
- Better sleep in a cleaner environment
Note: the effect varies from person to person. For some, cleaner air provides clear relief of symptoms, while for others the effect is less noticeable.
You can try the Air Balance for 30 days. Not for you after all? Then you can simply and return it free of charge by submitting a return request.
Yes, absolutely. Even without allergies or respiratory problems, the Air Balance can noticeably improve the air quality in, for example, your bedroom. While sleeping, you breathe the same air for hours, often with the windows closed and limited ventilation. The Air Balance removes invisible pollution such as fine dust, mould spores and pollen from the air, creating a fresher sleeping environment.
For many users this leads to:
- A fresher, cleaner feeling upon waking
- Less dry throat or blocked nose in the morning
- Calmer breathing during the night
- A more pleasant atmosphere in the bedroom, especially with closed windows
- Less dust settling on furniture and surfaces
Even without complaints, clean air contributes to a better night’s sleep and a more pleasant start to your day.

Does it use an ioniser?
❌ No ioniser – deliberately avoided due to ozone and health concerns
- Ozone production is harmful: Ionisers can emit ozone. Although usually in small amounts, ozone can cause airway irritation in sensitive people (such as asthma patients).
- Health authorities warn against it: Organisations such as the RIVM and the WHO advise against using ionisers in enclosed spaces because of these health risks.
- Little added value: The HEPA-13 filter in the Air Balance is already highly effective – including against viruses and bacteria – so an ioniser provides hardly any extra benefit.
- More maintenance: Ionisers cause dust particles to settle inside the device or on surfaces. These must be cleaned regularly to maintain effectiveness. Without proper maintenance, efficiency decreases and ozone emissions may increase.
- Extra costs and risk of defects: An ioniser is an additional component that can wear out or fail. This increases the risk of malfunctions and leads to extra costs for replacement or repair.

❌ No UV lamp – deliberately avoided due to limited effect and added value.
- Limited effect in air purification: UV-C light can kill micro-organisms, but it requires a high dose and sufficient contact time. In compact air purifiers, air often flows past the lamp too quickly to be effective.
- Little added value: The HEPA-13 filter in the Air Balance is already highly effective – including against viruses and bacteria – so a UV lamp adds hardly any benefit.
- Lamps wear out and need replacing: UV-C lamps lose strength over time and must be replaced regularly to remain effective – something users often forget or do not do.
- Extra costs and maintenance: A UV lamp makes the device more complex and involves recurring costs – due to higher power consumption and because the lamp must be replaced periodically to remain effective.
No, the Air Balance is not a humidifier.
- The Air Balance does not blow out cold or warm air.
- The device does not function as a humidifier.
- The Air Balance is not suitable for use with oils.
No, the device is not an air conditioner or a heat source.
- The Air Balance comes with a HEPA filter included.
- The filter lasts approximately 6–8 months.
- Clean the filter every few weeks using a vacuum cleaner.
- A new filter costs £24, including shipping.
- Filters can be ordered at www.rolfstone.com
The Air Balance and Air Balance XL are equipped with a HEPA-13 filter, which blocks at least 99.97% of all polluting particles. In addition, the device contains an activated carbon filter, which helps to reduce unpleasant odours.
See below “What is a HEPA filter?” for more information.
HEPA is a type of pleated mechanical air filter. It is an acronym for "High Efficiency Particulate Air" filter. This type of filter can remove at least 99.97% of dust, pollen, mould, bacteria and all airborne particles with a size of 0.3 microns (µm). Particles that are much smaller or larger are filtered even more effectively than this 99.97%.
In the Air Balance and Air Balance XL the air is filtered through a 3-stage HEPA filter.
- The outer layer of the filter blocks coarse pollution such as visible dust, hairs and flakes.
- The second layer is the actual HEPA filter, which removes at least 99.97% of pollen, dirt, fine dust, bacteria, viruses and microplastics from the air.
- The third layer is the Activated Carbon filter. This layer is effective at removing unpleasant odours and (cigarette) smoke.
❌ No app control – deliberately omitted for simplicity, privacy and reliability
Our air purifiers are deliberately designed without app control. This makes the device easier to use, safer for your privacy and completely independent of your phone or software updates. Everything works straight out of the box – without installation, account or connection. What’s more, operation is so intuitive that for many users an app would actually be unnecessarily complicated. This way, use remains accessible, straightforward and reliable for everyone.
Use & Functionality
Information on how the Air Balance works, what you can do with it, and how to use it.
Important
The filter inside the air purifier is wrapped in plastic to keep it clean and dry during manufacturing and transport. It is very important to remove the plastic packaging from the filter before using the air purifier for the first time!
Step 1
Turn the air purifier upside down so that the base with the feet is facing upwards. You may wish to place it on a soft surface to prevent scratches. On the edge of the bottom cover, you will find an arrow pointing to the CLOSE position. Turn the bottom cover anti-clockwise from CLOSE to OPEN to release it.
Step 2
Remove the filter from the air purifier and take off the plastic wrapping.
Step 3
Place the filter back into the air purifier.
Step 4
Reattach the bottom cover to the air purifier with the arrow pointing to OPEN. Then, turn it clockwise towards CLOSE. When you hear a click, the bottom cover is securely in place.
The light on top of the air purifier automatically indicates how clean the air is.

When set to ‘Auto’, the air purifier responds automatically if the surrounding air becomes polluted enough to pose a potential health risk. In most cases, the indicator will remain blue, meaning the air is kept clean at a low fan speed. Since the air quality is not immediately concerning, there is no need for the purifier to switch to a higher setting.
When you switch on the Air Balance it will remain on until you turn it off yourself.
However, there is also a timer function that allows you to set the operating time. Select one of the options below, and the device will switch off automatically after the chosen duration:
- 2 hours
- 4 hours
- 8 hours
Yes, the purification is automatically controlled when the air purifier is set to the automatic mode!
The device has a built-in sensor that constantly monitors the air quality. When it detects increased air pollution, it will automatically switch to the appropriate fan speed.
As the pollution decreases through air filtration, the purifier will automatically return to a lower fan speed.
- The Air Balance is suitable for rooms of up to 21m2 / 226 sq ft
- Examples: bedroom, children’s room, home office, small living room, attic, garden shed
The Air Balance air purifier features a quiet sleep mode, ideal for an undisturbed night’s rest while keeping the air clean. When you increase the fan speed, it naturally becomes louder, as is the case with all air purifiers, but the higher settings are usually only needed for short periods.

The Air Balance has very low power consumption, so you can easily use it throughout the night without worrying about energy costs.

1. The best placement for the Air Purifier
In general, it’s best to place the air purifier near the main source of pollution. Think, for example, near a fireplace, where pets stay, or by a frequently opened door. If the source of pollution is not clear, you can place the air purifier close to the person who benefits most from clean air.
Make sure the air purifier has enough space around it. Keep at least 20 cm distance from the wall and 40 cm from other objects to allow it to clean the room effectively.
Do not place the Air Balance too high. Ideally, place it on the floor or no higher than 40 cm.
The Air Balance must be placed on a flat, stable surface so that all feet are in contact with the ground. This prevents vibration noise.
2. Keep doors and windows closed, but ensure fresh air
If doors and windows are left open too often, the cleaned air will escape or new pollution may enter. The Air Balance works best in a semi-enclosed space where the existing air is continuously purified.
However, don’t forget to ventilate the room properly. The Air Balance does not produce fresh oxygen, this must come from outside. For example, in the bedroom, it’s fine to leave the window and door slightly open.
3. Keep the Air Balance running
Set the air purifier to automatic mode or manually select the setting that feels most comfortable. Because of open doors and dust stirred up by people and pets, there is always new pollution in the air.
Leaving the purifier on helps keep the air cleaner and more stable. If you’re away from the room for an extended period (such as during the night), you can of course switch it off.
4. Clean the air purifier and filter regularly
See also page 8. By vacuuming the outside of the filter and the inside of the filter housing regularly, the filter will last longer and the air purifier will perform better. Do not clean the filter with water or any other liquid.
5. Bedroom
If you’d like to start the night with very clean air in the bedroom, switch the Air Balance to its highest setting about 2 hours before bedtime. Close the bedroom door and, if you wish, leave the window slightly open. This gives the Air Balance enough time to filter the air multiple times through the HEPA filter. Before going to sleep, you can reopen the door and window and optionally switch the Air Balance to sleep mode.
You can also apply this tip in the living room when you’re away for a bit and the sound of the higher fan speed won’t disturb anyone.
6. Extra clean
If you want to keep the room extra clean or you suffer from allergy symptoms even with low levels of pollution, don’t use the automatic mode. Instead, choose a higher setting manually.
7. After vacuuming
While vacuuming, small dust particles may escape back into the air from the vacuum cleaner’s outlet. Although this isn’t harmful to your health, it can aggravate allergy symptoms. If this happens, switch the air purifier to its highest setting after vacuuming to quickly clean the air again.
8. While cooking
When cooking, it’s of course important to use the extractor hood. However, that’s often not enough to eliminate all cooking smells. In that case, temporarily set the Air Balance to a higher setting — the carbon filter will greatly reduce odours.
It’s important to note that cooking smells and steam released during cooking are harmless. The Air Balance does not detect this as polluted air and therefore won’t automatically increase its fan speed. However, if something burns and the unit is nearby and set to ‘Auto’, the Air Balance will react quickly.
9. Give it a bit of time
The best way to use the air purifier can vary from person to person. Some people run the Air Balance all day on auto mode, while others, due to allergies, prefer a higher manual setting. Take a bit of time to discover what works best for you and what you feel most comfortable with.
10. If the air quality indicator often shows blue
As explained on page 5, the Air Balance responds in automatic mode when the surrounding air is polluted to a level that may pose a health risk. If this is not the case, the purifier will remain on the blue setting. In this mode, the air is still being cleaned to prevent it from gradually becoming more polluted.
However, if you suffer from allergies, even very low levels of pollution can be problematic. In such cases, you can manually set the Air Balance to a higher speed or use the method described in tip 5.
11. What doesn’t get dirty doesn’t need to be cleaned
No matter how well an air purifier works, it’s even better for your indoor air quality (and your health) to minimise air pollution in the first place. Here are a few tips to help improve the air quality in your home:
- Avoid opening windows and doors too widely when the Air Balance is on (see also tip 2 on page 9). This prevents clean air from escaping and dirty air from entering easily.
- Dust that has settled on surfaces will not be removed by the air purifier. Regular vacuuming and dusting helps to get rid of it. Don’t forget to clean under beds and furniture. Use a microfibre cloth when dusting, as it traps dust more effectively. Afterwards, set the Air Balance to its highest setting for a while to remove the fine dust that may have been stirred back into the air (for example, through the vacuum cleaner’s outlet).
- Avoid placing piles of clean laundry in rooms where you spend a lot of time, such as the bedroom. Also avoid folding or ironing laundry in such spaces. Many fabrics release fibres easily, which you’ll notice as fluff on the floor or fine particles floating in the air.
- It’s important to wash your bedding regularly, especially if you suffer from allergies. House dust mites like to settle in beds and leave behind residue that dries out and breaks down into tiny airborne particles. Wash bedding at 60°C to kill the mites.
- Curtains, carpets, and fabric upholstery not only trap dust easily, they also generate it. When you open the curtains or sit on the sofa, dust particles are released into the air. Of course, that’s what the air purifier is for — but if this triggers strong allergy symptoms, consider using materials that trap less dust. Think of smooth flooring like wood, laminate or PVC, and roller blinds or slatted blinds instead of fabric curtains.

Rolfstone Heating Blanket
The heating blanket has 3 heat settings. On the lowest setting you can enjoy the warmth for up to 6 hours.
It is possible to wash the blanket cover of the Rolfstone heating blanket!
The inner part itself in which the heating element is incorporated is not possible to wash.
Fully charging the power bank in the heating blanket takes approximately 5 hours.
But the heating blanket can also be used while charging. So you never have to wait until it is fully loaded.
When you turn on your heating blanket, it may take a few minutes before you start to feel the heat. This is completely normal. After about 10 minutes you will experience the full warmth.
You can achieve an optimal heat experience by sitting close to the heating element. With thicker clothing it may take a little longer before you experience full warmth.
After about half an hour you often notice that the heat is so effective that you can lower the heat level. You can then switch from a starting position 3 to position 2 or sometimes even 1 and still experience a pleasant warmth. An additional advantage is that the battery lasts even longer at a lower setting before recharging is necessary!
Fully charging the heating blanket costs about 2 pence.
If you use and charge the blanket every day, it costs £7.30 per year.
- 11,4watt x 5 hours = 57Wh
- 57Wh = 0,057kWh
- £0,38 per kWh (Sep. 2023)
- 0,057 x 0,38 = £0,02
Connect the Power Bank
- Open the zip of the power bank compartment.
- Connect the power bank connector to the power bank.
- Put everything back and close the zip.
- Fully charge the heating blanket
- Turn On
- Switch on the heating blanket.
- Press again, if desired, to change the heat level.
The heating blanket is packaged and shipped from Coventry in the UK.

If the heating blanket does not feel warm enough, please review the tips below.
- When you turn on the heating blanket, it takes a few minutes before you start feeling the warmth.
- You feel the warmth best by sitting on the blanket.
- If you only feel with your hand, the warmth may feel less intense. The warmth is much more noticeable when you sit on it.
- The heating blanket has two warming zones: one near the seat area and one near the lower back.
- After approximately 10 minutes, the blanket reaches its maximum warmth.
- Thicker clothing may cause the warmth to take slightly longer to fully penetrate.
- After about half an hour, you may notice the warmth is so effective that you can lower the heat level from setting 3 to 2 or even 1, while still maintaining a comfortable temperature.
- By lowering the heat level, you use less energy, and the battery lasts longer before needing to be recharged.
If, after following the above tips, you still feel insufficient warmth, please check the following:
- Is the power bank connected?
- Is the power bank charged?
- Is the heated blanket actually switched on?
- Is the heat level perhaps set to level 1?
